Sept 14 @ 7pm: Organ Concert at St Peter’s by the Sea Episcopal Church (611 Lincoln St. Sitka, AK)
***FEATURING JOHN ZIMMERMAN: ORGANIST/PILOT***
It is hard to spend much time with John Zimmerman without the topic of music--specifically the church music--working its way into conversation. After studying piano from an early age, John was captivated by the installation process for a church pipe organ in Norman, Oklahoma, where he grew up. It wasn't long after seeing the pipes and pieces of that instrument disassembled that John added serious study of the pipe organ to his rigorous piano regimen and began performing in competitions as a high school student.
John's college years at the University of Oklahoma were devoted to academic and professional musical activities. John met his lovely bride Katrina while they were in the University of Oklahoma marching band and completed his Bachelor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance & Music Theory with emphasis on Pipe Organ and Choral Conducting in 2001.
Many musicians also share interest in aviation and two of John's organist friends introduced him to flying a little over 20 years ago. Flying is what brought John and Katrina to Anchorage in 2006 where John supports his music habit by working as an airline pilot and makes music with any combination of his eight children whenever possible.
